This position will be working as a part of an extremely dynamic team of professionals supporting all aspects of the School of Medicine and the creation of the financial infrastructure, process, and procedures for the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine. The new Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine is seeking applicants for Foundational Science Educators to join a multi-disciplinary team of faculty and staff in developing curriculum and teaching concepts related to their discipline which are fundamental to the practice of medicine. Selected applicants will collaborate with other Foundational Science and Clinical faculty to integrate and reinforce concepts throughout the four year curriculum, serve as a content expert in developing specific educational and assessment materials to be delivered in a variety of student-centered and online pedagogies, and serve as a facilitator for small group learning.

Description of School/School Mission
The Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine (KPSOM) will open in the fall of 2019 and is hiring experienced health science educators, at all academic levels for the position of Foundational Science Educator. Because there will be no tenured positions, faculty will receive multi-year contracts after a probationary period.
Increase diversity and promote inclusion in the physician workforce and improve the health of underserved and disadvantaged populations;
Join with other leaders in medical education to refine and strengthen current and future methods and curricula;
Leverage Kaiser Permanente-s integrated health care delivery system to be a catalyst for change in medical education;
Embody and promote wellness and resilience, while educating future physicians to model total health for themselves and their patients.

The KPSOM is a natural expansion of our already sizable medical education portfolio. Since our founding 70 years ago, Kaiser Permanente has championed physician training and development as an important component in enhancing and improving medical care, most notably through exemplar graduate medical education programs in five of our regions throughout the country and in partnering with medical schools to provide high quality clinical training in years 3 and 4.

The KP School of Medicine is seeking an innovative and flexible educator with commitment to medical student education for a full time position as Foundational Science Educator. The position is designed for a master medical sciences educator with a passion for teaching and learning. The expectation is that this position's primary function focuses on facilitating learning foundational medical sciences. There is no expectation of medical science research.KP School of Medicine aims to deliver an innovative, integrated curriculum, utilizing technology-based instruction and evaluation, and small group learning. Candidates will be responsible for coordinating, developing, and teaching material throughout the four years of the curriculum. Foundational Science content areas will include anatomy, genetics, physiology, biochemistry, histology, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology and neurosciences, as well as other foundational medical sciences and clinical sciences. Selected individuals will also have administrative responsibilities including coordination with other content areas, generation of appropriate evaluation tools, student evaluation and interdisciplinary collaborations. The successful candidate must possess a strong passion for curriculum development and integration with the clinical sciences, creativity, experience working with technology, and a track record of collaboration.
The Foundational Science Educator will have a unique opportunity to help launch the innovative KPSOM which will admit its inaugural class of medical students in fall of 2019.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum (5) years of experience within a medical school with demonstrated outstanding teaching abilities, specific experiences in leading curriculum design, curriculum development, student and course evaluation, assessment, and curriculum mapping with respect to competencies and milestones
Education
- PhD or MD degree in a foundational medical science OR eight (8) years of experience in a directly related field.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration

Additional Requirements:
- Experience evaluating learning outcomes and maintaining an ongoing track record of professional and course continuous quality improvement
- Demonstrated ability to apply specific subject matter knowledge to the needs of a medical student as evidenced through student, peer or annual evaluations
- Experienced in applying the principles of learning and instructional design, adult learning theory, educational research, development of competency-based education, and assessment of student learning (skills, knowledge and attitudes) through course, module or new content development
- Excellent writing and teaching skills with a commitment to student success
- Demonstrated evidence of strong interpersonal and communications skills, effective critical thinking, and the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks
- Demonstrated evidence of a commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion of all people, inquiry, and scholarship
- Demonstrated creativity and strategic thinking with the ability to take initiative and the willingness to learn
- A commitment to the unique values of the KP School of Medicine including diversity of person, thought, and innovation with a strong sensibility toward community and wellness
- Demonstrated ability to respond effectively and assertively to crises, workflow problems and conflicts
- Demonstrated experience of working with complex tasks that require meeting critical deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience with various teaching methodologies such as problem based learning, team based learning, case based learning, technology assisted learning and flipped classroom
- Experience with accreditation of medical education programs
- Experience with technology-based instruction and evaluation
- Ability to work collaboratively with project staff, faculty, and administration
- Evidence of an established record of effective teaching, participation in faculty development, and a commitment to work productively in an inter-professional team.
- Evidence of prior productive scholarly and creative activity is also desired
- Record of medical education related scholarly activity
